Nov. 30, 2022 - The North Central College women's soccer student-athlete, Ellie Lochbaum made history on Wednesday after being named the program's first-ever United Soccer Coaches All-American. She was recognized as a second-team All-American after earning All-Region first-team honors on Tuesday.

The junior defender was a first-team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) honoree for the second straight season and was named the 2022 CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year after an exceptional year on the field. Lochbaum is one of four Cardinals to be named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region teams—the program's largest induction group to date—as she was named to the first team earlier this week. Lochbaum is the first All-American in the program's 28-year history. She is one of two CCIW student-athletes to earn All-American accolades as Illinois Wesleyan's Caelyn Steffens also received second-team recognition.

Lochbaum, a Sycamore native, started in all 19 games this season and played a crucial role in North Central's defense holding their opponents to only 18 goals all season while the Cardinals put up 51. Lochbaum scored four goals this year with one game-winner and had two assists. She was selected as the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week twice this season.

This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.

North Central finished the season with a 12-2-5 record, turning in an undefeated record in CCIW play while tying for the most wins in a single season, previously set in 2021. The Cardinals reached their highest ranking ever at No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches National Top 25 and returned to the CCIW championship match for the second straight year before falling to Illinois Wesleyan 1-4.
