BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (Feb. 6, 2022) - The North Central College women's track and field team won five of the 18 contested events and posted six performances among the program's all-time best in Saturday's Walter Cramer Invitational, held at Olivet Nazarene University's Perry Center.
The Cardinals swept the top two places in two events. Julia Babinec charged away from the field in the 60-meter hurdles to win in 8.76 seconds, narrowly missing her season-best time of 8.75 which currently ranks second among all NCAA Division III competitors. Denise Partee, meanwhie, placed second in 9.26 seconds and clocked a 9.19 in the preliminary rounds to move up to No. 7 on the program's all-time list.
Madzia Myrda won the 800-meter run in two minutes, 28.63 seconds with teammate Emmy Mussey hitting the line second in 2:32.63. The Cardinals placed first and third in the pole vault, as Kathy Myrda cleared 11 feet, 10.50 inches (3.62 meters) to claim the win and Natalie Johnson achieved a career-best mark of 11'2.50" (3.42m) to place third. Alexandra Draves unleashed a season-best distance of 55'0.75" (16.78m) in the 20-pound weight throw to finish first and move up to No. 11 nationally in the event and Lindsey Novak won the 600-meter run by nearly three seconds in 1:41.05.
Jenna Fiore and Hailey Poe finished second (5:22.91) and third (5:24.20), respectively, in the mile run and Allison Grady came in third in the 400-meter dash (1:03.15). Marcedes Jackson's personal-best time of 7.93 seconds in the 60-meter dash yielded a third-place finish and the seventh-fastest time in school history, while Babinec finished fourth in 7.96 and now ranks 10th all-time.
The Cardinals' Hannah Jones competed in the pentathlon at Carthage College's Tadd Metzger Invitational Friday, placing third with a total of 2,867 points. Jones now ranks sixth in North Central's history in the event.
The Cardinals host the Pat Heenan Invitational at Al B. Carius Track Saturday. Competition is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
