Feb. 9, 2022 - North Central College men's tennis player Ramon Vilarroig Martinez was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week on Wednesday, earning the distinction for the second time in his career. 

Vilarroig Martinez went 4-0 over the weekend to lead the Cardinals to wins over No. 39 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (6-3) and No.40 Luther College (8-1). 

Vilarroig Martinez paired up with junior Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez at the No. 1 doubles position, as the pair earned an 8-5 victory over Hunter Roseth and Tyler Grosz of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Vilarroig followed this with a win at No. 1 singles beating Roseth 6-2, 6-2. 

In the next match of the day against Luther College, Vilsrroig Martinez and Gonzalez Fernandez earned a hard-fought win, 8-7 over the ninth-ranked doubles team in the country. Vilarroig Martinez continues his winning streak to his singles play, winning 6-3, 6-4 against Motlojo, who is ranked as the 19th singles player in the region. 

Vilarroig Martinez is now 3-1 in doubles play and 4-0 in singles play for the spring season.

The Cardinals take on Coe College on Feb. 12, inside the Clark Racquet Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with matches scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Followed by a match with Central College at 1 PM.
