Apr. 12, 2022 - Adjusting its schedule to compete in fairer conditions, the North Central College women's track and field team traveled to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Rex Foster Twilight Meet for a rare Sunday meet before sending a smaller group to Wheaton College for the
Al Carius Old Fashioned Track Meet Monday.
The Cardinals scored two victories at Whitewater, both of which came in throwing events.
Faith Ladin turned in a mark of 133 feet, one inch (40.56 meters) to win the javelin throw. Ladin ranks eighth among NCAA Division III competitors in the event this season.
Alexandra Draves, meanwhile, won the hammer throw with a distance of 167'9" (51.13m) and now ranks 14th nationally.
Jenna Fiore established personal bests in placing second in the 1,500-meter run (4:45.34) and third in the 5,000-meter run (18:08.96), while
Lauren Larsen,
Julia Babinec,
Stephanie Garcia and
Denise Partee finished second in the 4-by-100-meter relay (49.06). Other second-place showings Sunday came from Partee in the 100-meter hurdles (14.67),
Lindsey Novak in the 400-meter dash (59.36) and
Kathy Myrda in the pole vault (10'2"), while third-place efforts came from
Tarrah Kamp in the discus throw (128'10", 39.26m),
Hannah Jones in the javelin throw (117'6") and
Anna Cotter in the high jump (4'10.25", 1.48m).
Team scores were not kept Sunday. In Monday's meet at Wheaton, the Cardinals scored 52 points and placed third in the field despite sending a limited number of entrants. Elmhurst University won the five-team meet with 128.50 points.
North Central swept the top three places in Monday's pole vault competition, as Myrda tied an outdoor personal best with a clearance of 12'2.50" (3.72m) and now ranks ninth in Division III in the event.
Natalie Johnson placed second (11'5.75", 3.50m) and
Kiarah Horn finished third (10'0", 3.05m).
Babinec won the 100-meter dash (12.61) and third in the 200-meter dash (25.82) while also teaming with Novak,
Allison Grady and
Raegan Stinger to place second in the 4-by-100 relay (49.86). Novak's second-place time of 25.48 seconds in the 200 ranks as the sixth-fastest in the Cardinals' history, while Stinger also finished second in the 400 (1:05.53).
North Central hosts the First Chance Invitational Friday.
