July 14, 2022 - In recognition of its commitment to combined excellence in academics and athletics, the North Central College men's track and field program has been recognized by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with three All-Academic Individual awards for the 2022 season. 
 
To qualify for the individual All-Academic award, student-athletes must have compiled a grade point average of 3.30 and have qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships or finish the season ranked in the national top 50 in an individual event or the top 35 in a relay event. 
 
Pole vaulter Gavin Carr and distance runner Connor Riss are now two-time recipients of the distinction, while distance runner James McGlashon is a first-time honoree. North Central was also recognized as one of just more than 150 NCAA Division III All-Academic Teams by the USTFCCCA, achieving an all-time program best 3.218 cumulative GPA to achieve the team award for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
 
Carr, a neuroscience major, ranked 30th nationally in the pole vault in the 2022 outdoor campaign with a clearance of 15 feet, seven inches (4.75 meters), finishing third at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championship. Riss ranked 33rd outdoors in the 1,500-meter run with a time of three minutes, 49.06 seconds which currently ranks eighth-fastest in the Cardinals' history. A double major in marketing and finance, Riss placed second in the 1,500 at the CCIW Outdoor Championship. McGlashon, a writing major, ranked 34th nationwide in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:13.76) and placed sixth in the CCIW in the event.
 
North Central's three honorees are among 23 CCIW representatives on the All-Academic list. More than 500 Division III athletes nationwide received the distinction.
