Sept. 10, 2022 - Hosting its first ever North Central Tournament, the North Central College women's soccer team overpowered the No. 14 ranked Centre College Colonels 4-1 as four different Cardinals tallied goals in the championship game.

Utilizing the first half to settle into a rhythm they could use against the Colonels, Brooke Nelson waited until the 38th minute to fire in a goal off an assist from Sophia Hein to put the Cardinals up 1-0 heading into halftime.

The Cardinals controlled much of the second half with a trio of goals in consecutive minutes to continue their dismantle of the Colonel defense. Morgan Verbeten played a huge role in the Cardinal offense as she set up Sam Schutte for a clean goal in the 51st minute before booting a goal of her own in the 52nd minute off an assists from Elle Sutter to put the Cardinals up 3-0.

Sutter extended the Cardinals' lead with a goal in the 53rd minute, thanks to an assist by Kily Egan to bring the score to 4-0 in favor of the Cardinals and prompting a goalkeeper substitution for the Colonels.

Centre answered back quickly with a goal in the 55th minute but it wasn't enough to waver the North Central defense for the remainder of the match. 

Jordan Boyd was in the box for the complete 90 minutes, seeing a total of 16 shots and allowing only one goal while totaling four saves on the day.

The Cardinals claimed the championship title of the North Central Tournament to improved to a 4-0-1 record on the season.

North Central heads to Dubuque, Iowa on Wednesday, Sept. 14 to take on the No. 3 ranked Loras College Duhawks. Game time in the Rock Bowl is set for 5 p.m.
