Sept. 17, 2022 - Looking to bounce back from a 1-0 deficit at the start of the second half, the No. 18 ranked North Central College women's soccer team turned in three goals in Ellie Lochbaum, Sophia Hein, and Kaitlyn Cannon to pick up the 3-1 win over Hope College on Saturday afternoon. 

The Flying Dutch got an early start in the match, picking up their solo goal in the 10th minute by Liz Bellinger. The Cardinals defense held Hope to only five shots in the first half.

A collision in the box drew a foul on the Hope goalkeeper putting North Central forward Ellie Lochbaum in a penalty kick opportunity in the 56th minute. Finding the top corner of the net with ease, Lochbaum clinched the Cardinals first goal of the game to tie it at 1-1.

A short pass from Yazmin Martinez in the 65th minute set Sophia Hein up for a deep goal just out of reach of the Hope goalkeeper giving the Cardinals their first lead of the game at 2-1. 

Kaitlyn Cannon found a clear opening for a deep goal in the 78th minute as she launched it to the top corner of the net to put the game out of reach for the Flying Dutch at 3-1.

North Central totaled 20 shots over Hope's eight while eight of the Cardinal shots were on goal. Hope's goalkeeper recorded five saves on the day while Jordan Boyd tallied two. 

North Central hosts the Knox College Prairie Fire on Sunday, Sept. 18 for Senior Day at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
