Sept. 28, 2022 - Capturing the first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week award for the North Central College women's tennis team this season,
Natalie Bassett tallied three doubles wins and two singles win on her way to a 5-0 week while the Cardinals improved to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in CCIW play.
To open the week, North Central posted an 8-1 win over Carthage College as Bassett teamed up with Kaeli Smashey to take an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles before tallying a 6-0, 6-2 win over Giovanna Mendes.
On Saturday, Bassett played with Mikayla Edquiban to take an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles as the Cardinals downed Illinois Wesleyan 9-0. In North Central's second 9-0 win of the day, Bassett and Smashey secured a hard-fought 8-5 doubles victory before taking a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over her North Park opponent to close out her undefeated week.
On the season, Bassett is 8-0 in singles play and 8-1 in doubles action. This marks the second career CCIW Player of the Week award for Bassett as she earned the award in the spring on March 16th.
Bassett is one of four Cardinals heading to St. Louis, Mo. on Friday as they compete in the three-day ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis.
