LISLE, Ill. (Sept. 3, 2022) - A lightning delay had little effect on the North Central College women's soccer team as their offense had a seven point surge in the second half to overpower the Benedictine University Eagles 7-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Despite a scoreless first half, the Cardinals offense put on an aggressive offensive front, recording 17 shots to the Eagles three, with six shots on goal to Bendeictine's two.

The Cardinals wasted no time in the second half as Sarah Andrey scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Sam Schutte in the 46th minute. Not too long after, the weather intruded with a lighting delay for nearly two hours.

Once the teams got the all clear to return to play, the Cardinals came out firing on all cylinders as Andrey scored her second goal of the night off a Morgan Verbeten assist in the 61st minute. Two minutes later, Kassandra Salviola found her scoring opportunity in the 63nd minute bringing the score to 3-0.

Ellie Lochbaum found Schutte open in the box for the Cardinals' fourth scoring opportunity in the 71st minute. Sophia Hein found a gap in the lower left corner of the net to put the ball away on an Elle Sutter assist at the 80th minute.

With 10 minutes left of game play, North Central found two more scoring opportunities with an unassisted goal by freshman Lizzie Norman in the 85th minute and within the last minute of play, Hein picked up an assist as Brooke Nelson fired a shot into the lower left corner to bringing to score to a 7-0 shutout over the Eagles.

The Cardinals defense executed yet another stellar performance holding the Eagles to a mere eight shots through 90 minutes. Jordan Boyd clinched her second shutout of the season and recorded five saves in the process.

North Central advances to a 2-0 record and heads to River Forest, Ill. on Wednesday, Sept. 7 for a non-conference game against the Dominican University Stars.
