OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (Sept. 1, 2022) - Looking to create some momentum for the season, the North Central College women's triathlon team took a trip to Oconomowoc, Wis. for the Lake Country Challenge Sprint on Saturday morning where
Hailey Poe placed first of all NCAA competitors and third overall in the mixed-gender race.
Poe was not only the top North Central finisher of the day but also the top female finisher, clocking an overall time of one hour, thirteen minutes and thirty point fifty-four seconds. Poe was the first to break from the 400 meter swim with a time of five minutes and 14 seconds. She continued that lead into the 17.12 mile bike where she clocked a time of 45 minutes and 54 seconds. With her background in running, Poe flourished in the 3.14 mile run in a time of 20 minutes and 34 second.
Freshman Bethany Smeed was the next Cardinal to cross the finish line, coming in as the second NCAA competitor with a time of 1:21:13.78. Scarlett Schuth (1:21:46.72) and Charlotte Kumler (1:22:15.87) were just behind Smeed in third and fourth, respectively. Natalie Grolmes (1:29:08.90) finished seventh while Taylin Lemke crossed in ninth and Abigail Anderson was 11th.Â
The Cardinals compiled 54 points on the day to take the NCAA team win while Millikin University scored 27 points to finish second, and Concordia University-Wisconsin scored 15 points to place third.
North Central hits the road for the Beaver County Tri Cup in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on Sept. 10.Â
