Jan. 14, 2023 - The North Central College men's track and field team opened its 2023 campaign by hosting the four-team Cardinal Opener at Al. B Carius Track on Saturday where the Cardinals had four event winners and took third as a team.

Jamauri Spivery impressed the arena with a 6.93-second showing in the 60-meter dash finals while AJ Lehman proved victorious in the 400-meter dash in a  time of 51.94 seconds. Also claiming an event win on the track was Kyle Nofziger who finished six seconds ahead of the next competitor in the 3000-meter run (8:54.46). North Central had the top-three finishers in the long jump as Michael Robinson's 20'10.75" (6.37m) leap claimed the event win followed by Jahron Williams (6.32m) and Tony Cole (6.32) in second and third, respectively.

Anthony Zajac turned in a second-place finish with a personal best toss of 50'05.5" (15.38m) before teammate Riley Hughes reciprocated that effort with a second-place showing in the shot put (13.95m). Second-place performances in the field also came from Gavin Carr in the pole vault (4.25m) and Cole Oleson in the high jump (1.83m). Gage Nielsen clocked a 4:21.75 in the mile run to finish second in the 17-person field.

The Milwaukee School of Engineering took home the team win with 192.50 points followed by the University of Chicago (155.50), North Central (145), and the Illinois Institute of Technology (22).

North Central is back in action on Friday, Jan. 20 inside Res Rec for the Snow Day Invitational. Competition at the Al B. Carius Track is set for 4 p.m.
