Jan. 21, 2023 - The North Central College men's track and field team dominated in their latest home meet, claiming seven event wins and posting a score of 259 points to take first as a team in the six-team Snow Day Invitational at the Al B. Carius Track on Friday.
Jamauri Spivery nearly replicated his performance from last week, clocking a 7.02-second run in the 60-meter dash preliminaries before winning the event with his time of 6.94 seconds. Teammate Matt Lewis finished third in the finals with a time of 7.15 seconds.
North Central had 10 of the top 12 spots in the 800-meter run with Connor Riss (1:57.37), Lucas Hoffman (1:57.41), and Logan Tanttu (1:58.13) as the event's top three finishers, respectively. The distance squad took over the 5,000-meter run, as 12 of the 13-person field wore North Central uniforms. Max Svienty led the charge with a first-place showing and time of 14:47.30 followed by Thomas Rohr (14:54.52) and Drew Guimond (15:22.37). North Central's distance-medley relay squad of Riss, Owen Dare, Michael Molloy, and Braden Nicholson turned in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) leading time of 10:21.91 to take the meet win.
Colton Oleson won the high jump with a personal best effort of 6 feet, 1.25 inches (1.86 meters) while Gavin Carr cleared 4.50 meters in the pole vault to claim the event win and rank first in the CCIW. Michael Robinson won the triple jump with a 13.26-meter leap after taking second in the long jump (6.38m) and the 4-by-400-meter relay with teammates Tyler Piron, Jason Connor, and AJ Lehman (3:33.16).
Also turning in second-place performances were Charley Smith with a personal best time in the 200-meter dash (23.05), Julian Higueros in the mile (4:23.49), and Anthony Divenere in the pole vault (4.10). Third-place finishes came from Lehman who lowered his season's best time in the 400-meter dash (51.84), Joel Jaquinde in the pole vault (3.95m) and Tony Cole in the long jump (6.22m).
North Central claimed the team win with 259 points, followed by Carthage (142), St. Francis (67), Benedictine (31), Concordia-Chicago (9), and Roosevelt (8).
After hosting two straight home meets, North Central hits the road for the Aurora Grand Prix on Friday, Jan. 27, hosted by the Aurora University Spartans. Competition will take place at the Gately Indoor Track and Field in Chicago, Ill.
