Adrian, Mich. (Nov. 13, 2023) - The North Central College women's wrestling team ended their business trip in Adrian, Mich. by finishing first among 23 institutions on Sunday at the Adrian Open.

In the 101-pound weight class,
Maddie Avila started her day off with a win against Alma College's Mackenzie Burger with a 11-1 technical fall. She continued her success in the quarterfinals with a win against Lexi Doerflinger (Hiram College) by a dominating 10-0 technical fall. She defeated Genesis Ramirez of Aurora University with a 12-0 technical fall in the semifinals before dropping the first-place match against Stefana Jelacic (Lourdes University) to an 11-0 technical fall. Avila ended the Open in second place.

In the 109-pound weight class,
Kendra Ryan won her first two matches by 12-0 technical falls against Kayla Smith (University of Guelph) and Jesenia Camargo (Delawar Valley University). In the quarterfinals, Ryan defeated Allison Hancher of Indiana Tech with a 10-0 technical fall. Picking up her fourth technical fall of the day, she defeated Tehani Soares of Indiana Tech (10-0). Ryan finished the day in first place after defeating Kaelani Shufeldt (Lock Haven) by a 5-0 decision.

In the 116-pound weight class,
Sydney Petzinger received a bye in the first round. She only needed 21 seconds to pin Claire MacDougall of the University of Guelph in the second round. Petzinger picked up her second pin of the day in the quarterfinals against Emma Jones (Indiana Tech) in one minute and 41 seconds. In the semifinals, she faced teammate
Amaya Yoshizumi, defeating her with a 10-0 technical fall. Petzinger dominated Izabella Frezzo (New Jersey City University) with a 10-0 technical fall and earned herself first place.

In the 123-pound weight class,
Asia Nguyen-Smith started her day off with a bye before pinning Carly Gross (Lock Haven) in three minutes and 11 seconds. Taking on Reece Martin of Adrian College in the quarterfinals, Nguyen-Smith won the match by a pin in one minute and two seconds. Picking up her third pin of the day, she defeated Bridgette Schoultz (Delawar Valley University) in one minute and 17 seconds. Nguyen-Smith finished the day off in first place after defeating Julia Vidallon (McKendree) by a 4-2 decision.

In the 130-pound weight class,
Sara Sterner started her day by pinning Madeline Allen (Tiffin University) in only 31 seconds. In the next round, Sterner took down Lillian Sherer of Lock Haven with a 10-0 technical fall. She continued her success by pinning Kendya Pierre-Louis of Indiana Tech (1:31). Sterner fell to teammate
Salome Walker in a 4-4 decision before defeating teammate
Haley Vann with a pin in one minute and four seconds. Sterner took home third place by pinning teammate
Taylor Miess in 18 seconds.

Salome Walker started off her day by pinning Danielle Ruiz of Albion (1:17) before pinning Ezmerelda Schuab (Slippery Rock University) in only 45 seconds. She picked up her third pin of the day on Samantha Chaon of Northern Michigan University (0:57). Walker defeated Sterner before defeating Nichole Moore (McKendree) with a 2-0 decision.

Yele Aycock defeated Madison Small (Trine University) with a 10-0 technical fall. She won her next two matches by technical falls over Sharon Leon of Northern Michigan University (11-0) and Natasha Markoutsis of Aurora University (13-2). Aycock pinned teammate
Halle White (1:37) before defeating teammate
Taylor Graveman in an 8-4 decision to take home first place.

Alondra Morales won her first two matches with pins against Katrina Cortez of Lourdes University (2:56) and Mackenzie Finn of New Jersey City University (1:36). She defeated Estella Gutches (McKendree) with a 10-0 technical fall, before falling to teammate
Taylor Graveman. In the consultation semifinals, Morales defeated Natasha Markoutsis (Aurora University) by a 10-0 technical fall. She finished the Open in third place after pinning teammate
Halle White (2:43).

Graveman started her day off with a pin in one minute and 14 seconds against Desiree Vazquez of Lourdes University. In the next round, she dominated Katie Palmer (Gannon University) by a 11-0 technical fall. Graveman went on to defeat teammates,
Raena Schledwitz and Morales, with technical falls. In the championship match, Graveman fell to Aycock, earning second place.

Kendall Bostelman received a bye in the first round. She defeated Lucy Maris of Lock Haven by a 10-0 technical fall. She defeated Maia Crumb (Indiana Tech) with a 13-6 decision before falling to Zoey Lints of Elmira by a 7-3 decision. In the consultation semifinals, Bostelman defeated Lili Ujfalvi (Gannon University) by a 9-4 decision. She finished her day by taking on teammate
Niya Teresita Gaines, defeating her with a 2-2 decision and taking home third place.

Tiera Jimerson started her day off by pinning Paige Jackson of Lock Haven University in one minute and 20 seconds. Jimerson took the momentum into the second round where she only needed 58 seconds to pin Jordan Palmer of John Carroll University. She defeated Najeh Russo of Rochester University by a 10-0 technical fall. In the semifinals, Jimerson continued her domination by taking down Caroline Gilstrap (McKendree University) with a 12-0 technical fall. In the championship match she would fall to Noelle Gaffney of Northern Michigan University by a 4-1 decision, taking home second place.

In the 191-pound weight class,
Caroline Ward defeated Lindsay Laws (Lock Haven) by a 5-0 decision before defeating Christina Chavez of Gannon University with a 12-0 technical fall. In the semifinal match, Ward fell to teammate
Brittyn Corbishley by a 5-2 decision. Ward went on to defeat Sydney Manos (Aurora University) in the consultation semifinals with a 2-0 decision. Ward took home third place by pinning Trinity Monaghan of Lock Haven University in two minutes and 44 seconds.

In her first round,
Brittyn Corbishley pinned Salana Camacho of Albion University in one minute and 10 seconds. In the quarterfinal, she only needed 31 seconds to pin Trinity Monaghan. Corbishley took down teammate Ward with a 5-2 decision. In the championship match, Corbishley took down Sandra Guerrero (New Jersey City University) by a 4-0 decision.

The Cardinals will travel to Kenosha, Wis. on Nov. 14 for their first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match up against Carthage College. Matches are set to start at 6 p.m.
