Nov 5, 2023 – North Central College men's wrestling team competed at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point over the weekend. The Cardinals had 11 wrestlers who placed in their respective weight classes.
In the 125-weight class, Christian Guzman placed first. He competed in a total of five matches on the day. In the final two matches he took down David Vukobratovich (Central (IA)) by a 16-1 technical fall. Guzman won the weight class after taking down teammate Ethan Spacht by a 4-2 decision.
Ethan Spacht started the day off lightning fast as he won by fall over against Tate Stockman (Carthage College) in just 54 seconds. He carried this momentum against Patrick Gugala-Reinders (Luther College) as he won by major decision 10-1. Spacht would also win his next two matches by decision before finishing in second place.
In the 133-weight class, Joshua Robinson began the day by winning in a 18-2 technical fall against Austin Dangles (Wisconsin-Whitewater). Robinson won his next two matches by fall over. Robinson claimed second place after being defeated by Joey Roti (Wisconsin-Parkside) by fall over in 6:54.
Jad Alwawi received a bye in his first match and started the day winning by a 7-2 decision over Blaze Thurber (Wisconsin-Stevens Point). He would be defeated by Elon Rodriguez (Wisconsin-Parkside) by 14-2 major decision and competed in the consolation rounds next. Alwawi won his next two matches by decision. He would claim sixth on the day after meeting Rodriguez once again.
In the 141- weight class Bradley Rosen won four matches on the day by either technical fall or by decision. Rosen claimed second after falling to Pierre Baldwin (Central (IA)) by a 5-3 decision.
Kayle Bearson won his first two matches of the day by a major decision. Bearson would compete in the consolation rounds after Pierre Baldwin (Central (IA)) would defeat him by a 14-4 major decision. He would go on to win by a 13-2 major decision over Tristan Day (Luther College) and then a 16-12 decision over Jake Penzato (Aurora University). Bearson claimed fourth place in the weight class.
In the 157-weight class, Jesse Herrera started off winning in a 12-7 decision over Emmanuel Oliver (Morton College). He would then win his next two matches by major decision. Herrera was defeated in his next match Gavin Model (Wisconsin) by fall over. He finished the day claiming sixth place.
In the 174 weight-class, Casey Aikman received a bye in his first match. To start his day, he won by a 20-9 major decision over Devin Medina (Aurora Universtiy). Carson Trotzer (Wisconsin-Stevens Point) defeated him by a 6-3 decision in the next match. In the 5th place consolation match, Aikman claimed victory by a medical forfeit against Logan Burger (Luther College).
In the 184-weight class, Jack Hominac received a bye for the first match and won the first won he competed in by a 9-3 decision over Landon Kirby (Central (IA)). He was defeated in the next match by an unattached wrestler by a technical fall over. Hominac then went on to win three straight matches by decision to claim third in the 184-weight class.
Payton Geigner also received a bye for the first match and started the second round match by winning by a 12-1 major decision over Devin Rogers (Carthage College). His next two matches also saw him win by fall over. Geigner went on to finish in second place in the 184-weight class.
In the 197-weight class, David Pirozhnik won his first match against Giovanni Rodriguez (Morton College) in a 15-0 technical fall over. Pirozhnik would be defeated in his next match and competed in the consolation rounds the rest of the way through. He would claim third place winning his next three matches by decision with the third place match being won by a 6-4 decision over Demond Harrison (Albion).
The Cardinals are back at it on Nov. 9 as they travel to Wheaton College.
