Dec 31, 2023 - The North Central College men's wrestling team competed in the Ken Kraft Midlands to close out the calendar year. The team finished 29 overall in a very competitive field that included numerous Division I and Division II schools.
The Cardinals took seven wrestlers to the tournament and four of them scored points for the team.
Ethan Spacht competing in the 125-weight class scored a point for the team by winning one of his matches against Jett Strickenberger (West Virginia) in a 4-1 decision.
No. 2 ranked Christian Guzman in the 125-weight class scored two points after receiving a bye in the first round and coming out in the second-round bout with a victory over Massey Odiotti (Northwestern) with a 10-4 decision.
No. 7 ranked Bradley Rosen scored 1.5 points as he received two byes and in his two victories over Dante Frinzi (Harvard) and Dante Frinzi (Harvard), Rosen won through decisions.
No. 10 Robby Bates scored 3 points in the 285 weight-class as he won his first match against Logan Marissal (Harvard) with a fall through 3 minutes and 58 seconds.
The top five finishers in the tournament are the University of Pennsylvania as they scored 127.5 points, University of Wisconsin in second place with 104.5 points, No 20 ranked in Division I, West Virginia in third with 100.5 points, University of Michigan State in fourth with 84.5 points, and the University of Iowa in fifth with 82 points.
The North Central College men's wrestling team will be back in action in the NWCA National Duals as they start on Jan. 5 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
