Svienty, Riss Etch Names in Record Book at Pat Heenan

Feb. 12, 2023 - The North Central College men's track and field team came away with the team win at Saturday's Pat Heenan Invitational with personal best and facility record-setting performances coming from the distance squad.

Max Svienty lead the charge in the 5,000-meter run turning in a personal best effort of 14 minutes and 24.35 seconds to set a new facility record for the Al B. Carius Track. Svienty's time is seventh in the program's all-time list while ranking 13th among all Division III competitors. Braden Nicholson clocked a 14:37.76 in his debut 5,000-meter run to finish third.

A pair of personal best efforts for Connor Riss led to two more event wins for the Cardinals in the mile and the 3,000-meter run. Riss turned in a time of four minutes and 10.75 seconds to move into the program's top 10 at No. 6 while leading the CCIW and ranking seventh in the nation. His second personal best came in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:35.33. Logan Tanttu also had a personal best time in the mile, clocking a 4:14.90 to finish third. 

AJ Lehman's 50.64-second effort in the 400-meter dash was good for a second-place finish. Matt Lewis turned in a personal best effort of 7.10 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish second, with teammate Jahron Williams close behind in third (7.14). Jamauri Spivery competed in the special invite section of the 60-meter dash turning in a third-place finish in 6.96 seconds. 

Anthony Divenere finished second in the pole vault with a clearance of 14 feet and 3.25 inches (4.35m). Gavin Carr cleared the same height, finishing third due to the tie-breaker. Also finished third was Riley Hughes in the shot put (43'07.50") and the 4-by-400-meter relay of Lehman, Tyler Piron, Michael Robinson, and Jason Connor (3:29.09). 

The Cardinals totaled 149 points to take the team win in the 14-team field while the University of Chicago trailed close behind with 133 points. Olivet Nazarene finished third as a team with 83 points. 

North Central hosts its final competition of the indoor regular season on Friday, Feb. 17 with the F. Lee Slick Invitational.
