Feb. 28, 2023 - Following their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconson (CCIW) Championship win this weekend, the North Central College sized up at No.19 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings while ranking fifth in the Midwest region.
Five Cardinals rank amongst the nation's top 25 as Lindsey Novak sits fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.66) and eighth in the 400-meter dash (56.37). Alexandra Draves ranks fifth in the weight throw (18.34 meters) while Natalie Johnson ranks 15th in the pole vault (3.75m). Julia Babinec (8.73) and Denise Partee (8.85) currently sit ninth and nineteenth in the 60-meter hurdles, respectively.
UW- La Crosse and Washington (Mo.) continue to lead the national standings while Loras made the jump into third, knocking Chicago down to fourth. Mount Union and Johns Hopkins traded spots to rank fifth and sixth as Tufts jumped six spots to rank seventh. SUNY Geneseo, Wartburg, and UW-Eau Claire round on the nation's top 10 programs this week.
The top five Midwest region rankings have remained the same as Chicago continues to reign at No. 1 with Washington (Mo.) trailing in second. Loras and Wartburg are third and fourth, respectively with North Central coming in at No. 5. CCIW foe, Elmhurst University, is just behind in sixth.
North Central will be taking advantage of various last-chance meets ahead of the NCAA Division III National Championships in Birmingham, Alabama next week as they travel to Carthage College, Wartburg College, UW-Platteville, and Ripon College for final tune-ups.
