Feb. 8, 2023 - Following a week that saw the North Central College men's tennis team take down Kalamazoo College for the first time in program history, Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's men's tennis player of the week.

Gonzalez Fernandez teamed up with Ramon Vilarroig Martinez at No. 1 doubles to beat Gabe Vidinas and Peter Fitzgerald in a tightly contested 8-7 battle. In singles play, he dropped the opening set but mounted a comeback to ultimately win 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 spot.

This is the first weekly honor for the conference this season and marks Gonzalez Fernandez's second CCIW Player of the Week award. As a program, this is North Central's 28th CCIW Player of the Week, dating back to the 2009 season.

The Cardinals travel to Chicago this weekend as they take on No. 1 University of Chicago at 3 p.m. before facing the Illinois Institute of Technology at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
