NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 11, 2023) - For the first time in his career, North Central College men's lacrosse junior, Zach Kuyava, was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. 

Kuyava, a face-off specialist from White Bear Lake, Minn., scooped up twelve ground balls last week while going 27-60 at the face-off circle for a 45% win rate. Against Albion College, Kuyava won twelve face-offs while scooping up five ground balls. Kuyava played a key role in the Cardinals 17-11 win over Elmhurst University on Saturday as he went 15-29 for a 52% win rate while scooping up seven ground balls. 

On the season, Kuyava has gone 82-193 at the face-off circle for a 42% win rate while leading the team with 40 ground balls. 

Kuyava and the Cardinals head to Lexington, Ky. for a CCIW matchup against Transylvania University on Saturday, April 15. The opening face-off is set for 12 pm (1pm est) at Pat Deacon Stadium.
