Apr. 19, 2023 - North Central College men's track and field distance runner,
Max Svienty has claimed his second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Track Athlete of the Week honor of the outdoor season, after turning in only the second 5,000-meter run in program history completed under 14 minutes outdoors -- a mark that ranks 12th on the Division III all-time list.
Svienty's 13-minute, 59.79 seconds was good for third place in Friday's 5,000-meter race at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and ranks fourth in the nation and first in the CCIW. The Arlington Heights native also leads the conference and ranks third nationally in the 10,000-meter run (29:14.28).
North Central took advantage of the weekend's competition to improve its national marks and has since moved up to No. 16 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings and fifth in the Midwest region rankings.
North Central will be sending competitors to the Augustana College Meet of Champions on Friday, April 21 before returning to Wheaton College's Don Church Invitational on Saturday, April 22.
