Returning to the track for the first time since claiming All-American honors at the indoor championships in March, Max Svienty turned in a 29-minute 14.28-second effort in his debut 10,000-meter run at the WashU Distance Carnival to rank fourth on the program's all-time list. Down at the Spartan Opener hosted by the University of Dubuque, Gage Nielsen and Logan Tanttu teamed up for a photo-finish in the 1,500-meter run where Nielsen clocked a time of four minutes, 3.05 seconds to finish just ahead of Tanttu's 4:03.27 effort to finish first and second, respectively. Tanttu also turned in a second-place finish in the 800-meter dash (1:59.14) while Nielsen finished fourth (2:00.40).
In the field, Gavin Carr (13'7.25", 4.15 meters) and Jason England (13'1.50", 4.00m) placed second and third in the pole vault.
North Central finished third at the Spartan Opener with 107 points behind meet winner and host school, University of Dubuque with 258 points, and Loras College's 137 points. Concordia-St. Paul rounded out the team scores in fourth with 83 points.
After a weekend of traveling, the Cardinals will host the First Chance Invitation on Friday, April 7 at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium with field events set to start at 12 p.m.
