Apr. 23, 2023 - The No. 19 North Central College women's track and field team split its squad over the weekend traveling to Rock Island, Illinois for the Augustana College Meet of Champions on Friday before taking the short trip over the Wheaton College's Don Church Invitational on Saturday. The Cardinals came away with three event winners across the two meets.
Denise Partee led the charge in Rock Island, clocking a new personal best time of 14.20 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to set a new Meet of Champions record, and moved into the program's No. 4 spot on the all-times list. Partee's time ranks 10th on the Division III list this season and is second-fastest in the conference.
Lindsey Novak turned in a second place finish in the 100-meter dash at the Augustana meet. Her time of 12.01 seconds ranks 12th among Division III competitors. She also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (24.79) and sits 16th in the nation. Novak's races this weekend are her fastest wind-legal times of the season. Partee and Novak also teamed up with Marcedes Jackson and Cali Minkie for a second-place finish in the 4-by-100 meter relay (48.31).
Hannah Jones had her share of second-place finishes in the javelin throw (112'07", 34.31 meters) and the heptathlon (3827). Jones turned in the best marks in the heptathlon javelin (113'06", 34.60m) and the heptathlon 800-meter run (2:37.18). Gwen Berenyi turned in a third-place finish in the pole vault with her clearance of 11 feet, nine inches (3.58m).
Back in the Chicagoland area, Alexandra Draves overpowered the hammer throw competition with a first place finish of 172 feet, two inches (52.49m), over seven meters farther than the next competitor.
Callin Naddy turned in a two minute, 28.21 second 800-meter run to take first in the event while teammate Madzia Myrda finished second in two minutes, 30.23 seconds. Naddy and Myrda joined forces with Julia Benes and Cora Isaacson for a third-place 4-by-400 meter relay finish in four minutes, 55.02 seconds.
North Central scored 62 points at the Augustana Meet of Champions to tie with Elmhurst University for fourth out of 22 teams. Northern Iowa won the meet with 162 points followed by Loras College with 159. At Wheaton's Don Church Invitational, North Central finished fifth with 63 points while Carthage totaled 189 for first followed by Wheaton with 182.
The Cardinals are back in action on April 27 for the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa while the rest of the squad will compete at the Elmhurst Invite. Throwing events for the Elmhurst Invite will be contested at North Central College on Thursday, April 27 while the rest of the meet will take place at Wheaton College on Friday, April 28.
