Apr. 26, 2023 - North Central College men's track and field distance runner
Max Svienty has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Track Student-Athlete of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season after turning in a pair of first-place performances Wheaton College's Don Church Invitational. The CCIW announced its selections on Wednesday.
North Central has swept all four weeks of the CCIW Track weekly honors with
Luke Hoffmann also earning the award on Apr. 12. Svienty earns this week's selection after winning the 3,000-meter run in eight minutes and 39.87 seconds. His effort helped lead to a Cardinal sweep of the top four places in the event with Kyle
Nofziger (9:5.32),
Jonathan Olenek (9:08.08) and
Nathan Brischetto (9:32.06) following suit. Svienty also finished first in the 1,500-meter run with a time of four minutes, and two seconds.
North Central comes in at No. 21 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings while MIT, Rowan, and UW-La Crosse headline the nation's top 25. The Cardinals are the highest ranking CCIW member institution in both the national and regional rankings landing at No. 5 for the Midwest Region. Loras, Wartburg, Dubuque, and Washington (Mo.) make up the region's top five.
The Cardinals are back in action on April 27 for the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa with the majority of the squad competing at the Elmhurst Invite. Throwing events for the Elmhurst Invite will be contested at North Central College on Thursday, April 27 while the rest of the meet will take place at Wheaton College on Friday, April 28.
