Apr. 5, 2023 - North Central College men's track and field distance runner, Max Svienty, has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) first Track Athlete of the Week for the outdoor season after clocking the program's all-time fourth-fastest mark in the 10,000-meter run to set a new facility record at Washington (Mo.) University's Francis Stadium over the weekend. The CCIW announced its selections on Wednesday.

Svienty's time of 29 minutes, and 14.28 seconds broke a 16-year facility record and is the program's fastest time since 2019. He currently holds the top mark in the CCIW and ranks third nationally in the event.

Efforts by Svienty and his fellow Cardinals over the weekend at WashU's Distance Carnival and the University of Dubuque's Spartan Opener notched North Central the No. 8 spot in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest region rankings and No. 22 in the national poll.

North Central hosts the First Chance Invitational on Friday, April 7 at Benedetty-Wehrli Stadium. Throwing events are set for 12 p.m. with events on the track beginning at 3:45 p.m.
