May 7, 2023 - The North Central College men's track and field team battled dramatic changes in weather this week as they hosted the Carius-Gregory Invitational on Thursday and Friday inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. 

Ishaan Patel turned in one of two runner-up finishes at the Cardinals home event as he clocked a 15 minute, 7.31 second 5,000-meter run on Thursday with teammate Nathan Halbrader finishing not far behind in fourth with a time of 15 minutes, and 13.54 seconds — both recorded season best efforts. 

Connor Riss notched the other second-best performance for North Central as he completed the 1,500-meter run in a season's best time of three minutes, and 50.86 seconds. Braden Nicholson fought to the finish for a fifth-place showing and a career best performance of three minutes, and 52.17 seconds. 

Turning in fourth-place finishes was Jamauri Spivery in the 100-meter-dash (10.88) and Thomas Rohr in the 10,000-meter run (32:12.81). Riley Hughes's best mark in the discus throw (151'8", 46.23 meters) was good for fifth place at the Cardinals' final full home meet. 

Drew Guimond took on a 21-person field at St. Francis's Fighting Chance Invitational on Friday where he finished third overall in a time of 14 minutes, and 21.20 seconds. Logan Tanttu turned in a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run at St. Francis in one minute, 52.94 seconds. 

North Central will host the Cardinal Combined Events Qualifier on Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16 before sending a larger group to Augustana College for a final qualifier meet on Thursday, May 18.
