May 23, 2023 - North Central College men's track and field assistant coach, Matt Sinnott '03 has been named the 2023 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year. The USTFCCCA announced its selections on Tuesday.

Sinnott joined the North Central coaching staff prior to the 2013 season as a volunteer assistant coach for both cross country and track and field. In 2022, he was named interim head coach for the Cardinals' men's cross country program before being officially named the program's permanent head coach in December of 2022. Sinnott served on the staff as assistant coach for two indoor track and field national championship teams (2017, 2019) and coached the 2021 Division III national outdoor 1,500-meter run champion, Gabe Pommier '21.

This outdoor season, Sinnott has led the Cardinal distance squad to great achievements as the group combined for 104 of the teams 152.50 total points at the CCIW Outdoor Championships where North Central claimed its 22nd-straight CCIW title. Sinnott coached conference champions in the 800, 1,500, 5,000, and 10,000-meter runs. 

Sinnott's distance squad holds seven top-30 national performances this season while Max Svienty heads the list ranking fourth in the 10,000-meter and sixth in the 5,000-meter run. The distance squad also accounted for all eight of the program's All-Region honors this season. 

North Central has declared five national competitors for this weekend's Division III Outdoor National Championships across two events. Max Svienty is slated to race both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter run while Drew Guimond will join Svienty in the 10,000 with the nation's 12th fastest mark. Braden Nicholson and Connor Riss are ranked 13th and 20th, respectively, in the 5,000-meter field. 

The national championships will be hosted by St. John Fisher University at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, New York on May 25-27. The 10,000-meter run will be contested on Thursday, May 25 at 9:05 p.m. (ET) while the 5,000-meter run will take place Saturday, May 27 at 4:00 p.m. (ET).
