ROCHESTER, New York (May 27, 2023) - The North Central College men's track and field team continues to showcase its legacy in its distance squad as three Cardinal distance runners climbed the podium as All-Americans in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Rochester, New York.

Braden Nicholson was the first to break from the start line in the 5,000-meter run as he led through the first 200-meters before setting in the four-five position for much of the race. Nicholson moved up to third by the 1,500-meter mark where he sat before working a small stint in second with 1,000 meters to go. He eventually landed amongst the top three in the event, despite coming in as the No. 13 seed, with a finishing time of 14 minutes, 11.85 seconds.

Max Svienty nestled himself in the tenth spot through the first 2,500 meters before knocking down two runners each of the next two laps to move into sixth. With 800 meters left to go, Svienty moved into fifth where he eventually finished in 14 minutes, 19.76 seconds, one position higher than his seed ranking.

Connor Riss, the No. 20 seed coming in, broke from the start line in fourth before settling into the seventh position early on. Riss's consistent pace notched him the final place on the podium in eighth with his time of 14 minutes, 22.68 seconds. This marks the Cardinals' largest group on the podium in a single event since the 2018 indoor 5,000-meter where three Cardinals finished first, seventh, and eighth.

Svienty also ran the 10,000-meter run on Thursday where he finished just shy of the podium in ninth with a time of 29 minutes, 26.55 seconds. Drew Guimond, coming in as the No. 12 seed finished in his respective position in a personal best effort of 29 minutes, 36.22 seconds.

North Central finished 23rd as a team with 11 points while MIT ran away with the team title with 60.5 points. The runner-up for the 2023 outdoor championships was UW-La Crosse with 49 points with Rowan and John Carroll sharing third with 39 points.
