NCAA Press Release
May 3, 2023 - For the first time in program history, a North Central College women's tennis player will be competing in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships with
Abigail Penados being chosen as a singles player.
Penados, a freshman from Morton Grove, Illinois, has tallied a 21-4 overall record and is 12-3 in the No. 1 singles position for the Cardinals. She has defeated three regionally ranked singles players this season. Her four losses all came to singles players ranked in the top three of their respective regions. She is two singles wins away from tying the program record for singles wins in a season. Penados was named a First Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection back in October as the Cardinals won their second straight CCIW Tournament title.
The 32 best singles players in the country earn a spot in the NCAA DIII Tennis Singles Championships, which will begin on May 19th in Orlando, Florida at the United States Tennis Association National Campus.
The draw for the individual championship will be done by the women's tennis committee and will be released on Thursday, May 18 not before 1 p.m. Eastern time.
