2022-2023 CSC Academic All-District Men's Track and Field Teams
May 31, 2023 - The North Central College men's track and field team has been recognized with five selections to the 2022-2023 NCAA Division III Academic All-District Teams, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). The awards, which recognized combined academic and athletic excellence, are nominated and voted upon by the CSC membership, which includes more than 3,000 members at higher education institutions in the United States and Canada.
North Central's honorees are distance runners
Luke Hoffmann,
Connor Riss,
Thomas Rohr,
Max Svienty and
Logan Tanttu.
Hoffmann, an accounting major, placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Championship. Hoffmann was the Cardinals' leading competitor in the 3,000-meter steeplechase outdoors, placing second in the CCIW Outdoor Championship.
Riss, a marketing major, won the individual title at the CCIW Cross Country Championship in November before placing sixth at the Division III Midwest Regional Championship and 38th at the Division III national championship. Riss ran on the winning distance medley relay team and placed second in the 3,000-meter run at the CCIW Indoor Championship, then earned All-America honors with a sixth-place finish at the Division III Indoor Championship. Outdoors, Riss finished first in the 1,500-meter run and seventh in the 800-meter run at the CCIW Championship and won another All-America plaque with an eighth-place finish at 5,000 meters in the Division III Outdoor Championship.
Rohr, a mathematics major, placed fourth in the CCIW and 22nd in the Midwest Region in cross country. Rohr placed second at 5,000 meters and fifth at 3,000 meters in the CCIW Indoor Championship, then finished fourth in the 5,000 at the CCIW Outdoor Championship.
Svienty, an elementary education major, placed seventh in the CCIW and fourth in the Midwest Region in cross country, then won the 3,000-meter run at the CCIW Indoor Championship before finishing fourth at 5,000 meters and 13th at 3,000 meters at the Division III Indoor Championship. Svienty won the 10,000-meter run and finished fifth in the 1,500 meters at the CCIW Outdoor Championship, then placed fifth in the 5,000 and ninth in the 10,000 at the Division III Outdoor Championship. Svienty was voted the CCIW Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference Award for the winter season.
Tanttu, a graphic design major, finished second in the mile and third in the 800-meter run at the CCIW Indoor Championship, then won the 800 at the CCIW Outdoor Championship before also placing seventh in the 4-by-400-meter relay.
The Cardinals won the CCIW cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field championships in 2022-2023, placing seventh nationally in cross country. The CSC Academic All-America Teams will be announced in late June.
