May 4, 2023 - Ramon Vilarroig Martinez of the North Central College men's tennis team earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championships, becoming just the second Cardinal in program history to do so.

On the season, Vilarroig Martinez is 17-5 overall with a 6-2 record in tournament play. He has won four matches against regionally ranked opponents this season. Vilarroig Martinez has one win against a player in the tournament field with his 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 over Jack Bulger of Denison University on March 13th. 

He is the only College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin competitor in the 32-man field. Vilarroig Martinez was named a First Team All-CCIW selection for the second straight season.

Villaroig Martinez joins Sam Sweeney '11 as the only other North Central men's tennis player to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament Singles Championships. Sweeney won his opening-round match in both appearances at the NCAA Tournament.

The draw for the individual championship will be done by the men's tennis committee and will be released on May 17, not before 1 p.m. Eastern time.
