May 9, 2023 - The North Central College softball team has been honored with two selections to this year's All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Teams, including the conference's inaugural individual award recognizing outstanding defense. The CCIW announced its 2023 honorees Tuesday.

Junior shortstop Katie Del Re, for the second time, is a First Team All-CCIW selection and was voted the CCIW's Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year by the CCIW's head coaches. Also a First Team All-Conference pick and the CCIW Newcomer of the Year in 2021, Del Re batted a team-high .367 in 16 conference games, ranking fifth in walks (9), eighth in stolen bases (5) and 10th in runs scored (10). Del Re achieved a fielding percentage of .975 in 79 chances, the second-highest of any CCIW shortstop, and led the conference with 45 assists.

Junior Talia Torosian was recognized with a selection to this year's Second Team after batting .347 in conference play and ranking seventh league-wide in doubles (4) and home runs (2).  Torosian is a first-time All-CCIW honoree. Del Re and Torosian started all 16 CCIW games at shortstop and third base, respectively, as the Cardinals ranked second in the conference in fielding percentage (.967).

The CCIW also announced the nine winners of its RESPECT Award for the season. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture. North Central's RESPECT Award honoree is sophomore outfielder Sarah Lynch.

North Central finished the 2023 campaign 5-11 in CCIW play and 9-24 overall.
