June 5, 2023 - Five members of the North Central College men's lacrosse team have earned spots on the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Region 5 team, the organization announced on Monday.
Trenton Herubin and
Dylan Mlinarich have been named first-team selections while
Nick Rubino,
Miles Rathell, and
Jake Allgood earned second-team accolades.
Herubin, now a two-time IMLCA All-Region defenseman, was selected as an honorable mention All-American selection two weeks ago by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. He caused a team-high 25 turnovers as part of the Cardinals' defense this season. Herubin also recorded five goals and an assist.
Mlinarcih, chosen as a short stick defensive midfielder, is also a two-time honoree. He also earned an honorable mention All-American accolade by USILA two weeks ago. The senior racked up 10 caused turnovers and picked up nine ground balls to help anchor the Cardinals' defense.
Rubino earns his first All-Region honor for his performance this season with 35 goals scored and 24 assists for a team-leading 59 points. He also scored six game-winning goals and picked up 29 ground balls as an attackman.
Allgood, the first goalie to earn All-Region honors in program history, made 116 saves and allowed 10.28 goals per game. In the Cardinals' win over Transylvania University, Allgood recorded a season-high 17 saves. Allgood set a new standard for goalkeeping with 394 career saves in a Cardinals' uniform.
Rathell, a defenseman from Naperville, caused second turnovers and picked up 23 ground balls on the season. He helped anchor a defense that led the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in scoring defense.
The North Central men's lacrosse program now has nine IMLCA All-Region selections in program history to add to their three All-American honors. The Cardinals finished the season 10-6 with a 5-1 CCIW record.
