Sept. 13, 2023 - Following a week where she defeated the reigning College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Player of the Year in straight sets, North Central College women's tennis sophomore Abigail Penados earned the Co-CCIW Player of the Week award. The award is shared with North Park University's Alexandra Ristfeldt.

The Cardinals beat Carthage College 9-0 on Friday afternoon as their winning streak against the Firebirds is now at five. Penados took down Xingchen Liu 7-5, 6-3 in singles play after teaming up with Natalie Bassett to win 8-0 in doubles action. 

Penados is now 8-0 between singles and doubles play this season. Her career CCIW record improved to 19-0 overall following her perfect 15-0 season a year ago. This marks the second CCIW weekly award of her career. She is joined by Mikayla Edquiban, Bassett, and Kensington Payne as current Cardinals to earn the honor.

North Central is in action today as they visit Illinois Wesleyan University for a CCIW contest. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. at Beadles-Morse Tennis Courts.
