Jan 21, 2024 - The North Central College Cardinals men's wrestling team competed in the Harper Open. There were seven Cardinals who placed in the top five of their weight classes.
Ethan Spacht took first place in the 125-weight class. In Spacht's first three matches he decided them with pins. In the first-place match Spacht won it with a 6-4 decision.
Jad Alwawi took second in the 133-weight division. In Alwawi's first match he won with a 16-9 decision and followed it up with a 16-0 technical fall. To take his final victory of the day he won with a pin in 1:48.
Elijah Munoz took fourth place in the 157-weight division. In Munoz first matchup he took down conference competitor, Charles Gross (Elmhurst University), winning in a 20-3 technical fall. In Munoz's next match he won in a 10-6 decision.
Tyler Rodriguez took fifth place in the 165-weight division and won his last three fights of the day to claim it. In his first victory of the day, Rodriguez took down conference opponent, Liam Cote (Elmhurst University) in a 16-0 technical fall. Rodriguez quickly took down his next two opponents by winning with pins in less than a minute and 40 seconds.
Jon Kratz took fifth in the 197-weight division. Kratz took his first two victories of the day with a pin in both. In his third victory Kratz took it with a 17-2 technical fall. In Kratz final victory of the day, he won the fifth-place match with an 8-5 decision.
Philip Dozier took third in the 197-weight division. Dozier won two of his three victories with a pin including the third-place match. Dozier won the other match with a 17-1 technical fall.
Aidan Trujillo took third place in the 285-weight division. Trujillo took down his first three opponents with pins including a conference opponent in Andre Hunt (Elmhurst University). Trujillio managed to pull through the victory in the third-place match as he won with a 4-3 decision.
The North Central College Cardinals will compete next in the Pete Wilson Invitational on Jan 26 and 27.
