TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (Nov. 23, 2024)- With overcast skies, autumn-like temperatures, and a muddy course from rain, the North Central College men's cross country finished off the season with a seventh-place finish and two All-Americans in the NCAA Division III National Championship on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind.

Emerald Svienty led the charge for North Central, completing the course in a time of 24 minutes and 20 seconds. Svienty kept a consistent pace throughout the race while moving up the ranks, going from 30th place after the 1st kilometer of the race to placing 10th overall of 294 competitors. Svienty's efforts earned them a spot on the All-American team, their second of their cross country career.

Coming across second for the Cardinals was Matt Jett (24:35.1), as he placed 32nd. Jett maintained pace with Svienty for the first 2 kilometers of the race, as he had a two-second difference between him and Svienty. Jett continued to climb the ranks, going from 83rd place after 2 kilometers, jumping 51 spots, to his 32nd place finish. The senior made the All-American team for the first time in his career.

BJ Sorg (25:01.4) kept pace at around three minutes per kilometer run en route to a 74th place finish. Seconds later, Jonathan Olenek (25:03.9) placed 82nd, with Jacob Kluckhohn (25:22.4) closing out the top five finishers for the Cardinals in 129th place.

Kyle Nofziger (25:38.4) and Luke Hoffmann (25:45.1) were sixth and seventh for North Central, finishing in 177th place and 196th place, respectively.

North Central finished in seventh place with 257 points. The unanimous No. 1 team in the nation all season long, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, took home first place with 77 team points. Wartburg College, ranked No. 2 nationally, was second with 173 points. In third place was Pomona-Pitzer College (182).

The Cardinals season has come to an end, but they made history by winning their 50th straight CCIW Championship and extending the Individual CCIW Champion streak to 15 straight seasons.
