May 11, 2024 - The North Central College women's track and field team took advantage of hosting the Carius-Gregory Invitational on Thursday and Friday as a Cardinal relay team, and two individuals won their events.
The Cardinals' team of
Cali Minkie,
Lovenya Perry,
Lindsey Novak, and
Kyla Miller finished first in the 4-by-400-meter, clocking a time of 3:51.29. Their time ranks seventh in the program's outdoor top ten records. Meanwhile, the members of the relay saw success in their individual events.
In the 200-meter dash, Novak earned first place after clocking a 24.68-second finish. Minkie earned fourth place in the 200-meter dash (24.68) and third place in the 100-meter dash (12.81). Perry took fifth in the 400-meter dash and earned a new personal record (58.50).
The Cardinal athletes overwhelmed the javelin throw competition, sweeping the top three finishes.
Faith Ladin tossed a 41.04m (134'8") to win the event, while
Robin Lee finished second (31.25m, 102'6"), and
Anna Cotter finished third (31.02m, 101'9").
Additionally, Ladin also earned a third-place finish in the long jump (5.51m, 18'11"). Ladin's personal record now ties for sixth in the program's outdoor top ten records.
Pola Kubrak's 5-foot, 1.25-inch jump was good for a second-place finish in the high jump, while
Gwen Berenyi claimed a second-place finish in the pole vault (3.61m, 11'10"). Also turning in a second-place finish was
Alexandra Draves in the hammer throw (51.67, 169'6").
North Central will host the Cardinal Combined Events Qualifier on Monday, May 13, and Tuesday, May 14, before sending a group to Rock Island, Illinois for the Augustana Midwest Final Qualifier on Thursday, May 16.
