Day One Results

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (May 23, 2024) - The North Central College women's track and field team opened the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships under the sun in Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. The Cardinals competed in four events on day one: the heptathlon, javelin throw, pole vault, the 4-by-100 relay preliminaries, and the 200-meter dash preliminaries.

Faith Ladin had quite a busy day competing in the heptathlon and the javelin throw. Ladin clocked a time of 15.53 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. Then, in the high jump, cleared a height of 1.51m (4'11.45"). Continuing in the field, Ladin threw a 9.45m (31'3.75") toss in the shot put. In the 200-meter dash, Ladin clocked a time of 25.95 and earned tenth place in the event. Ladin ended day one with 2,703 points.

In the javelin throw, Ladin made program history with a toss of 44.40m (145'8.25"). Ladin's personal best landed her in fifth place and marked her as an All-American. Hannah Jones was in the second flight of the javelin throw. Jones' final throw of the day was protested by the Cardinals for an improper measurement, but the protest was ultimately denied. Jones took 14th with her best throw of 39.46m (126'5.75").

Gwen Berenyi was the lone Cardinal in the pole vault competition. Berenyi started the competition at a height of 3.41m (11'2.5") and made her way to 3.76m (12'4.25") with ease. She ended the competition by clearing 3.81m (12'6.25") for a new personal best. Berenyi took home eighth place and earned All-American honors.

The Cardinals 4-by-100 relay team of Marcedes Jackson, Kyla Miller, Allie Dockins, and Lindsey Novak crossed the line in 47.06 seconds, finishing 12th place in the preliminaries. Novak wrapped up the day in the 200-meter preliminaries. Novak clocked a 24.23-second effort to finish third in her heat. Unfortunately, Novak was just barely bumped out of the finals by an athlete in the third heat. However, Novak's time improved her school record by .11 of a second.

Tomorrow (May 24), North Central will have athletes competing in three events. Ladin will finish the heptathlon at 1:30 p.m. Novak will run in the 400-meter preliminaries at 5 p.m., followed by Jackson in the 100-meter preliminaries at 5:30 p.m.
