Vilarroig Martinez Finishes Season at NCAA Tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (May 26, 2024) - Playing in the NCAA Division III Singles Tournament for the second straight season, North Central College men's tennis player Ramon Vilarroig Martinez faced the No. 3 seed in the bracket, Jordan Theron of Sewanee, falling 7-5, 6-3 in the first round.

Vilarroig Martinez fell to the now four-time All-American Theron 7-5 in a back-and-forth opening set. Theron controlled set two early, ultimately winning 6-3 to advance to the round of 16.

Vilarroig Martinez wrapped up the year with a 24-5 overall record, tied for the second most wins in a single season in program history. He increased his career win total in singles action to 76, the most wins by a Cardinal in school history.

As a team, the Cardinals posted a 23-4 overall record while winning the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championship to compete in their second-ever NCAA Tournament. After a first-round win over Principia College, North Central fell to No. 12 Washington University in St. Louis to conclude the season.
