Men's Track Claims CCIW Title

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 4, 2024) - Putting up significant point totals across a broad range of events, the North Central College men's track and field team won its fourth straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championship with a united team effort.
 
North Central totaled 167 points, while runner-up Carthage College finished with 127. Illinois Wesleyan University was right behind in third with 125 points.
 
The Cardinals dominated the 10,000-meter run, sweeping the top four places. Max Svienty earned first place, finishing in 30:12.44. Jonathan Olenek finished in second (31:02.32), followed by Matthew Jett in third (31:04.19), and Braden Nicholson in fourth (31:08.79).
 
Svienty earned another first place in the 5,000-meter run (14:53.96). Svienty was followed by BJ Sorg in second with 14 minutes and 54.19 seconds. 
 
North Central continued to dominate on the track, next in the 1,500-meter run. Braden Nicholson completed the race in three minutes and 53.76 seconds. Connor Riss took second in three minutes and 54.81 seconds. Close behind was Gage Nielsen in third place (3:58.20). 
 
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Luke Hoffmann finished in nine minutes and 10.82 seconds, earning third place. Also taking third place was Logan Tanttu in the 800-meter run (1:53.25). In the 400-meter dash, AJ Lehman finished in fourth place (50.09). 
 
In the field, Jayden Leise earned a first-place finish in the triple jump. Leise recorded 46 feet and 10 inches (14.27m). Cole Oleson finished in second place in the high jump (6'5.50", 1.97m). 
 
Jacob Ahlberg was the lone Cardinal in the decathlon. Ahlberg took third place with 5,237 points. 
 
North Central's coaching staff was presented with the CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year award at the conclusion of the meeting. Nathan Halbrader was named the CCIW Elite 26 winner. 
 
The CCIW also announced the nine winners of its RESPECT Award for the season. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution, and their community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration, and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourage inclusiveness and a positive culture. North Central's RESPECT Award honoree is Andrew Rhodes
 
North Central will host the Carius-Gregory Invitational on May 9 beginning at 11 a.m. and May 10 at 1 p.m. at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
