ITA DIII Women's Tennis Academic Awards
July 24, 2024 - For the seventh straight season, the North Central College women's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association with the All-Academic Team Award for their combined success in the classroom while
Mikayla Edquiban,
Kate Herlihy,
Kayla McSweeney and
Nina Patience earned individual academic honors.
To earn the All-Academic Team award, a team must have an average grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. All student-athletes on the roster must be counted. Student-athletes need a GPA of 3.5 or higher to claim individual academic honors.
Patience is the fifth Cardinal in program history to be a four-time ITA All-Academic award winner. She graduated cum laude with degrees in computer science and ethical leadership. On the court, Patience captured a 15-5 singles record with a 9-3 mark in doubles play.
Edquiban, who graduated with a health science degree in the spring, is a first time ITA All-Academic selection. She posted a 13-11 record in doubles action with a 7-8 angles record on the season.
McSweeney, a social science/history major, tallied 11 wins and four losses in singles play for the Cardinals with a 5-0 record in conference play. She also won 11 doubles matches on the year, including a 2-1 mark at No. 1 doubles.
Herlihy, an environmental science and biology major, went 14-6 in singles play while posting a 6-1 mark in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin action. She recorded 14 wins and 10 losses in doubles play for North Central.
The Cardinals won their fourth straight CCIW Championship this spring on the way to their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The 2023-24 team set a school record for most wins in a season with 24.
