DAVENPORT, Iowa & CHICAGO (Dec. 11-12, 2025) – With student-athletes representing at two meets this week, the North Central College men's track and field team opens the 2025-26 season on a strong note. Senior Randy Reed set a new school record in the 300-meter dash, while junior Jayden Leise claimed a win in the triple jump at DePaul University's Blue Demon Holiday Invite on Friday evening. Graduate student Jacob Ahlberg also took a trip to Davenport, Iowa to compete in the multi at St. Ambrose University's Finals Week Invite.

In Davenport at the Finals Week Invite, graduate student Jacob Ahlberg completed the multi event across two days. After four events on Thursday, Ahlberg sat fifth with 2,124 points. His time of 7.91 in the 60-meter dash and his leap of 5.61m (18'5") in the long jump were both good for fifth in each event. In the shot put, one of Ahlberg's specialties in the multi event, he threw a personal-best of 11.65m (38'2.75") to place second overall. He cleared 1.58m (5'2.25") in the high jump, taking sixth, to sit fifth overall at the end of day one. Ahlberg came back to open day two with a third-place finish in the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.98 and finished second in the pole vault with a 3.60m (11'9.75") clearance before opting out of the 1000m run. Nonetheless, Ahlberg's 3,178 points was good for fifth overall.

In his first meet of the 2025-26 season, Jayden Leise popped off a big performance in the triple jump to top the Division I field. The only Division III competitor in the field, Leise's 14.20m (46'7.25") jump won the meet and currently sits 10th nationally.

Randy Reed opened his senior year with a time of 6.98 seconds in the 60m dash preliminary round to earn a spot in the final where he lowered his time to 6.90 for a second-place finish amongst Division I, III and NJCAA competition. His final time ties his personal-best in the 60m, a mark that sits second all-time in North Central history. Reed later came back for a second-place finish in the 300m dash, clocking a 34.53-second effort. The time sets a new program record for the non-traditional event, previously set by Peyton Piron in 2018 (35.17).

The Cardinals throws squad turned in consecutive finishes in the men's shot put with Daniel Dominguez finishing third with a 14.59m (47'10.50") throw, followed by Gavin McAlister in fourth (14.30m, 46'11") and Ben Balboa in fifth (14.08m, 46'2.50"). McAlister also competed in the weight throw, tossing a 14.97m (49'1.50") mark to place third.

Matthew Vergamini made his collegiate debut in the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 8.63 seconds to finish third in the event. Luke Hemmersmeier rounded out the Cardinal competitors with a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a 6.54m (21'5.50") jump.

North Central will take a break from competition until the new year when the team hosts the Cardinal Opener on Friday, January 9.
