ORLANDO, Fla. (Mar. 12, 2025) - In their final match of their spring break trip, the North Central College men's tennis team made a comeback in singles play to defeat Ithaca College 5-2 Wednesday evening at USTA National Campus.
Ithaca clutched the first point of the match after winning No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. But North Central's No. 1 doubles
Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and
Matthew Sengphommachanh cruised past Siddharth Desau and Gijs Fidler, winning four consecutive games to win 6-2 over the Bombers.
Vilarroig Martinez and
Philipp Wottgen were the lone two Cardinals to win their singles matches in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 6 respectively.
Henry Ros earned a comeback win after a thrilling tie breaker with Desai at No. 6 position (2-6, 6-1, 15-13).
Rafael Lessa (No. 4) and Sengphommachanh (No. 2) also delivered three-set victories to secure the Cardinals 5-2 win.
North Central will travel to Greenville, Ill., Friday, Mar. 21, to take on Greenville University at 3 p.m. inside Scott J. Burgess Tennis Complex.
