May 3, 2025 - The North Central College men's track and field team won their seventh consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship with the help of eight first-place finishes.
North Central won the championships as a team with 236 points. The Cardinals were followed by Illinois Wesleyan University at No. 2 with 139 points and Augustana College at No. 3 with 125 points.
Freshman
Kamil Kokot had a record-breaking run in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.52 seconds. Kokot tied for No. 29 in the national rankings.
Daniel Nwatu took fourth place with a time of 15.28 seconds.
The Cardinals distance runners swept the distance podium. In the 1,500-meter run,
Braden Nicholson submitted a time of 3:55.77, earning his first top place of the day. Nicholson was followed by
Jacob Everix in third place (3:57.44) and
Owen Dare in fourth place (3:58.39).
Additionally, Nicholson claimed first in the 5,000-meter run with a finish of 14:41.18. This time, he was followed by
BJ Sorg in third place (14:51.03) and
Connor Riss in fourth place (14:54.39). North Central's
Matt Jett finished the grueling 10,000-meter run on top of the 22-person field (30:28.19).
Oscar Frontjes was not far behind Jett in fourth place, clocking a time of 31:03.56.
The Cardinals' nationally ranked 4-by-100-meter relay team took care of business on the track.
Marcus Caselberry,
Randall Reed,
Brian Jackson, and
Alexander Knight proved to be the fastest unit, finishing in 41.14 seconds.
James Ammenhauser hit a mark of 7.09 meters (23' 3.25") in the long jump to claim first place.
Jayden Leise lept into first place in the triple jump, with a mark of 14.35 meters (47' 1"), while Ammenhauser earned third place with a leap of 13.93 meters (45' 8.5").
Ben Balboa notched first place in the discus throw (47.07m, 154' 5"), while
Daniel Dominguez collected a fourth-place finish (44.60m, 146' 4"). Additionally, both throwers earned top-five finishes in the shot put. Balboa earned third place (15.09m, 49' 6.25), while Dominguez took fourth (14.93m, 48' 11.75). Caselberry and
Colton Oleson collected second-place finishes in the 400-meter hurdles (57.39) and the high jump (2.03m, 6' 8"), respectively.
Anthony Zajac earned third place in the hammer throw, hitting the 54.83 (179' 10") meter mark, and
Gabe Parker claimed third in the pole vault (4.55, 14' 11"). Reed took third in both the 200-meter dash (21.68) and the 100-meter dash (10.87). Jackson followed Reed in fourth place in the 100-meter dash (10.93).
North Central will continue to make adjustments this week before traveling to Joliet, Ill., for the USF Fighting Chance Invite Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10.
