FISHERS, Ind.(Aug. 31, 2025)- Â The North Central College women's triathlon team opened their 2025 season with a dominant performance at the Geist Triathlon, held at Geist Waterfront Park, bringing home first among Division III.
The sprint triathlon, open to teams from all NCAA divisions, includes a 500-meter swim, a 12.5-mile bike ride, and finishes with a 3.1-mile run.Â
The Cardinals claimed the top spot with the entire team finishing in the top 12. They competed till the finish line with Trine University, who placed second, followed by Northern Kentucky in third, the University of Indianapolis in fourth, and Millikin in fifth.Â
Bethany Smeed came out strong to start the season by claiming her individual title with a time of 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 45 seconds. Smeed made her comeback to first after finishing the bike leg in third place, and quickly catching her competitor before the finish line.Â
Keeley Mick also delivered a standout performance, placing third overall with a time of 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 59 seconds. Mick was the leader out of the water and widened the gap during the bike leg, entering the run course solo.Â
The Cardinals will look to keep their momentum going to the Beaver Country Tri Cup in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania hosted by Duquesne University on Sep. 20.
