Feb. 14, 2026 – The North Central College men's track and field team came away with a pair of event wins and a few new marks in the program's all-time list at the Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Al B. Carius Track.
Prentice Myles scored big in the triple jump while
BJ Sorg cruised to a win in the 3,000-meter run.
After making finals with his first jump of the day,
Prentice Myles turned in an impressive leap of 7.22 meters (23'8.25") on his fifth attempt to secure the event win. Myles's mark is a new indoor personal best by over a foot and moves him to third all-time in program history. Myles leads the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) by eight inches and currently ranks 12th in Division III this season.
Luke Hemmersmeier matched his season best of 6.75m (22'1.75") to place sixth in the event, while
Michael Robinson finished 10
th with a 6.55m (21'5.75") jump.
Myles responded with another personal best in the triple jump on his first jump of the day, recording a mark of 13.81m (45'3.75") to finish as the runner-up in the event.
Kevin Fist secured a personal best in the event of 13.76m (45'1.75") to place fourth.
Brandon Woods finished sixth with a 12.95m (42'6") jump, and Robinson placed 10
th with a 12.02m (39'5.25").
In typical fashion, junior
BJ Sorg ran away with the 3,000-meter run win as his time of 8:31.18 gave him a 23-second margin of victory, less than 24 hours after clocking a 14:32.36 in the 5,000m for 11th place at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Midwest Elite meet on Friday night.
Kyle Nofziger posted a season best of 8:54.42 in the event as he claimed a runner-up finish.
Owen Christy (9:07.69) and
Connor Reed (9:26.46) finished fifth and sixth in the 3k, respectively.
Ryan Breese and
Brandon Hoffman closed out the top-10 finishes with Breese in ninth (9:37.77) and Hoffman in 10th (9:41.63).
A trio of Cardinals advanced to finals in the 60m dash as
Alexander Knight ran a 6.95 second effort to sit second out of the preliminary rounds while
Danny Eloe turned in the fourth fastest time of 6.98 seconds and
Matt Lewis sat sixth with a 7.09. In the final, Eloe posted a runner-up finish with a major personal best effort of 6.89 seconds. The sophomore moved up to third in program history and ranks third in the CCIW. A season best time of 7.05 seconds for Lewis landed him fifth place.
Jake Juneau placed fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 51.02 and Alex Moos was 10th with a season best time of 52.00. In the 200m,
Gabe Parker posted a season best of 22.67 seconds to finish fourth overall.
Cole Bradshaw closed out the top-10 in the 200m with a 23.08 second run.
Earlier in the day, Parker competed in the pole vault where he earned a new personal best clearance of 4.58m (15'0.50") to finish fifth.
Bobby Guetthoff had a successful day in the vault as well, notching a season best clearance of 4.28m (14'0.50") to place seventh.
The Cardinal throwers had a successful day in both the ring and the cage as
Gavin McAlister threw a season best of 16.40m (53'9.75") on his fifth throw of the day to finish fourth overall while
Ben Balboa secured a new personal best of 15.67m (51'5") to finish fifth and earn a spot in the program's all-time list at No. 10.
Daniel Dominguez closed out the field's top-10 with a 14.02m (46'0") mark.
In the shot put, North Central swept places three through six as Balboa led the way for the Cardinals with a 14.85m (48'8.75") throw. McAlister placed fourth with a 13.74m (45'1") toss while Martin Donahue was fifth (13.71m, 44'11.75") and
Josh Friedland matched a personal best to place sixth (13.70m, 44'11.50"). Dominguez finished 10th with a 12.76m (41'10.50") throw.
In the invitational flight of the high jump,
Cole Oleson notched a clearance of 2.04m (6'8.25") to finish as the runner-up in the field. Isaiah Shepherd jumped 1.84m (6'0.50") to place sixth.
Aidan Armstrong posted a third-place finish in the mile run in a time of 4:18.31, with
Brayden Groenenboom clocking a 4:31.97 time to place seventh. Groenenboom came back later in the day with a personal best time of 1:59.16 in the 800m run to claim a sixth-place finish behind teammate
Dakota White whose personal best time of 1:57.64 was good for fifth.
Owen Dare placed ninth in the 800m in a time of 2:01.05.
North Central had four Cardinals place in the top-10 of the 5,000m with
Rylan Deichen leading the charge for the Red & White. Deichen turned in a personal best of 15:26.97 to finish second, with
Nolan Crooks just behind in third at 15:29.64, a season best for the junior.
Austin Wesley crossed the finish line in a personal best of 15:46.24 as he finished fifth, and freshman
Jackson Carius posted a personal best of 15:57.63 to place eighth in the field of 27.
The Cardinals are set to host the F. Lee Slick Invitational next Friday, Feb. 20 at Al B. Carius Track with events slated for a 4 p.m. start.
