BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Feb. 28, 2026) — The North Central College men's track and field team continued its reign in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), capturing its ninth consecutive indoor championship title behind three event victories and 44 All-CCIW performances.
North Central won the meet with 221.83 points, while Carthage College finished second with 123 points. Host Illinois Wesleyan University placed third with 86 points. North Central's coaching staff was named the CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year, while
BJ Sorg earned CCIW Elite 26 honors as the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average competing at the championships.
Jacob Ahlberg was recognized as North Central's CCIW RESPECT Award recipient.
The distance medley relay (DMR) squad of
Aidan Armstrong,
Will Splant,
Brayden Groenenboom, and Sorg secured the program's first CCIW DMR title since 2023, clocking a winning time of 10:13.22 — five seconds ahead of the runner-up.
After contributing to Friday's DMR victory, Sorg returned Saturday to win the mile in a personal-best time of 4:14.42. Armstrong earned All-CCIW honors with a third-place finish in 4:14.78, while
Jack Galminas (fifth) and
Owen Dare (sixth) also collected All-CCIW accolades.
Randy Reed captured the 200-meter dash title in 22.04 seconds, marking the Cardinals' first indoor 200m championship since 2019 and the first indoor title of Reed's career. Reed also earned All-CCIW honors as the runner-up in the 60m dash (6.86) and as a member of the second-place 4x400m relay team alongside
Jake Juneau,
Gabe Parker, and
Zach Anderson. Juneau added another All-CCIW finish with a sixth-place showing in the 400m (50.70).
North Central placed five athletes in the 60m dash finals, including
Alexander Knight (third, 6.88),
Danny Eloe (fifth, 6.90),
Zach Anderson (7.02), and
Matt Lewis (eighth, 7.07), all earning All-CCIW honors. Similarly, four Cardinals qualified for the 60m hurdles final, led by
Kamil Kokot's second-place finish in 8.29 seconds.
Christian Kokot placed fourth (8.41),
Daniel Nwatu finished sixth (8.51), and
Matthew Vergamini took seventh (8.56), with all four earning All-CCIW recognition.
In his first conference appearance in the heptathlon,
Travis Hoffman finished third while winning three individual events: the 60m (7.09), 60m hurdles (8.77), and 1,000m (2:57.43). Hoffman totaled 4,300 points, moving to third all-time in program history.
North Central dominated the 5,000m, placing five runners in the top eight to earn All-CCIW honors:
Daniel Kasperan (second, 15:07.27),
Ricky Klein (third, 15:25.47),
Nolan Crooks (fourth, 15:26.17),
Koen McMillan (fifth, 15:29.04), and
Rylan Deichen (seventh, 15:44.22).
The Cardinals also shined in the 3,000m, with
Ari Elmayan finishing second (8:44.36),
Tyler Schick third (8:44.81), and
Jacob Kluckhohn fourth (8:47.85).
In the 800m,
Dakota White led three top-five finishers with a runner-up time of 1:57.29.
Drew Patterson placed third (1:57.56), and
Micah Mendoza finished fifth (1:58.81), each earning All-CCIW honors.
A trio of Cardinals earned All-CCIW recognition in the pole vault, led by
Gabe Parker's third-place clearance of 4.41m (14'5.50").
Bobby Guetthoff finished fourth (4.11m, 13'5.75"), and
Grant Sarris placed sixth (3.96m, 12'11.75"). Parker also earned All-CCIW honors in the 200m.
Cole Oleson matched his season-best mark in the high jump, clearing 2.06m (6'9") to finish second.
Isaiah Shepard placed eighth with a clearance of 1.84m (6'0.50").
Ben Balboa recorded a runner-up finish in the shot put with a 15.49m throw and placed fourth in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 16.22m, ranking seventh all-time in program history. Joining Balboa with All-CCIW honors in the shot put were
Daniel Dominguez (fifth, 14.58m),
Gavin McAlister (sixth, 14.16m), and Martin Donahue (eighth, 14.03m).
In the triple jump,
Jayden Leise secured a runner-up finish with a leap of 14.33m (47'0.25"), adding to his eighth-place finish in the long jump (6.46m, 21'2.50") from Friday.
Prentice Myles posted a personal-best 13.91m (45'7.75") to place fifth, while
Kevin Fist finished seventh (13.56m, 44'6").
North Central now turns its attention to last-chance qualifying meets ahead of the NCAA Division III Championships. The Cardinals will send a select group to Carthage College on Friday, March 6, and to the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse on Saturday, March 7.
