Adams Picks Up Weight Throw Win at Keck DIII Select

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Feb. 6-7, 2026) - The North Central College men's track & field team closed out the two-day Keck DIII Select and Multi late Saturday night in an extended final session, with the Cardinals securing one event win as Riley Adams set a freshman record in the weight throw while the team compiled 21 top-10 finishes in the loaded meet.

The Cardinal throwers produced six top-10 finishes across the two disciplines with freshman Riley Adams claiming the event win in the weight throw with a personal best of 15.11m (49'7"), a mark that breaks a 17 year old freshman record. Ben Balboa notched a runner-up finish in the shot put (15.64m, 51'3.75"). Balboa also finished fourth in the weight throw (14.71m, 48'3.25") with Daniel Dominguez finishing eighth (14.01m, 45'11.75"). Josh Friedland landed a personal best in the shot put that earned him ninth place (13.70m, 44'11.50") while Gavin McAlister placed 10th (13.69m, 44'11"). McAlister also competed in the weight throw invitational where he placed fifth overall with a toss of 15.90m (52'2").

Competing in his first collegiate heptathlon, Travis Hoffman landed the No. 4 spot in the program's all-time list after totaling 4,209 points across the two-day event. The freshman also set new heptathlon school records in the 60-meter (7.22) and 60m hurdles (8.85) on his way to a fifth-place finish in the event. 

Consistency was key for Zach Anderson in the 60-meter dash as he clocked a 7.07-second effort to earn the last spot into finals where he posted a time of 7.06 seconds to finish seventh overall. In the 60m hurdles, Daniel Nwatu's time of 8.92 seconds was good for a spot in the finals where he ultimately finished fourth with a personal best time of 8.67 seconds. 

A trio of Cardinals placed in the top-10 in the mile, with Owen Dare being the first Cardinals across the finish line in fifth in a time of 4:25.81 followed by Luke Cerwin in seventh (4:27.85) and Tyler Schick in eighth (4:28.39). 

Isaiah Shepard was good for a personal best in the high jump with a clearance of 1.85m (6'0.75") as he finished fifth. 

Prentice Myles claimed a new personal best in the triple jump with a 13.75m (45'1.50") leap, good for a runner up finish. Kevin Fist and Brandon Woods posted season bests to finish fourth (13.34m, 43'9.25") and ninth (12.81m, 42'0.50") in the event, respectively. Over in the long jump, Luke Hemmersmeier turned in a third-place finish with a 6.50m (21'4") jump.

The 4-by-400m squad of Anderson, Gabe Parker, Dakota White, and Jake Juneau posted a runner-up finish with a season best time of 3:25.22 to close out the night for the Cardinals.

North Central is set to host the Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 14 after three straight meets on the road.
