Men’s Track Wins 10 Events at Wheaton Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. (March 31, 2026) - Despite a quick turnaround prompted by forecasted weather later in the week, the North Central College men's track and field team successfully adjusted to the early-week Wheaton Invitational, earning 10 event victories along with a slew of personal-best performances on Tuesday.

Tyler Schick opened the day for the Cardinals with a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after setting a 16-second personal best of 9:41.24. Jacob Kluckhohn won the open 3000m run by nearly 20 seconds, clocking an 8:52.92 time in the event.  

Randy Reed cruised to a win in the 100m dash, clocking a new personal best of 10.62 seconds, a mark that moves him up to fourth in program history. Alexander Knight finished two hundredths of a second off from his career best, turning in a 10.79-second effort to finish third in the field. Reed also won the 200m dash with a time of 21.38 seconds while Knight was third in a personal best time of 22.02 seconds. Dion'ta McDaniel also notched a personal best of 22.13 to finish fifth.

The men's 4-by-100m relay team of Ebin Fladeland, Aiden Fladeland, Julian VIckery, and Jeremiah Oliver finished second in the event in a time of 42.66 seconds. 

In his first-ever 400m hurdle race, freshman Travis Hoffman claimed the event win after crossing the finish line in 54.56 seconds. Christian Kokot clocked a 57.89-second time to finish second while Grant Bond (59.06) and Giovanny Hernandez (59.77) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Kokot, Bond and Hernandez each bettered their career best efforts. 

After running a 15.46-second time in the 110m hurdles three days ago, Kokot also came back with a 15.02 time in today's race to finish second in the field.


Over at throws, the Cardinals claimed four of the top five spots in the discus, including a sweep of the top three places. Ben Balboa threw a season best of 49.57m (162'7") to take the event win, with Daniel Dominguez also throwing a season best of 43.95m (144'2") for second and Riley Adams earning a career best of 43.46m (142'7") for third place. Josh Friedland had a season best of 40.58m (133'1") to place fifth in the field. 

Braunsen Bax recorded a personal best in the hammer throw of 45.40m (148'11") as he finished third overall. Adams also earned a fourth-place finish in the shot put with an 11.05m (36'3") throw. 

Gabriel Steele notched his first-ever event win in the high jump with a 1.82m (5'11.50") clearance. In the pole vault, Grant Sarris placed second with a first attempt clearance at 4.25m (13'11.25") while Jacob Ahlberg was third with a 3.95m (12'11.50") clearance.

In the horizontal jumps, Jayden Leise claimed the triple jump win with a 13.90m (45'7.25") jump, nearly two full feet ahead of the rest of the field. Kevin Fist finished fourth in the triple jump (12.68m,41'7.25") and Brandon Woods was fifth (12.58m, 41'3.25"). Luke Hemmersmeier notched a season best leap in the long jump of 6.56m (21'6.25") to take third in the field. 

North Central landed three in the top five of the men's 1,500m with BJ Sorg leading the way for the Cardinals with a second-place finish in 3:56.84. Aidan Armstrong was just behind in third, clocking a 3:57.02, and Anthony Eddy placed fourth in a time of 4:08.43. Sorg and Armstrong's time are new personal bests for the duo.

Taking a break from his typical pole vaulting duties, Gabe Parker clocked the second-fastest time in the 400m dash field, turning in a time of 50.09 seconds. Jake Juneau set a personal best in the event with a 50.21 time. 

In the 800m run, Owen Dare was the top collegiate finisher in the field and placed second overall with a time of 1:58.04. Jack Galminas finished fourth overall in his first collegiate 800m race, debuting with a time of 1:59.64. 

North Central will be back in action next week for another two-meet weekend. The Cardinals will compete at the three-day Chicagoland Outdoor Championships Thursday, April 9 through Saturday, April 11 while a smaller group will head to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational on Friday, April 10.
