The 1982 North Central College men’s cross-country team captured the program’s ninth consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) championship, a streak still intact at the time of its induction. Tony Bluell won the CCIW individual title. At the NCAA Division III Championships, the Cardinals scored just 51 points — the lowest team total in meet history at the time — to secure their second straight national title and sixth in eight seasons under Head Coach Al Carius. North Central's lineup featured four All-Americans in Bluell (fourth place), Bob Dunphey (sixth), Jay Rogers (ninth) and Ray Krauss (18th). The Cardinals topped runner-up Brandeis University for the second consecutive year, finishing 38 points clear of the field. The 10th NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships were held at Tri-County Country Club in Forestville, N.Y., with 21 teams and 183 runners competing. The hilly, wind-swept 8,000-meter course — located just east of Lake Erie — had been soaked by a week of rain, and the already soft turf was made even more treacherous by light rain throughout the race.
