Box Score

Nov. 24, 2009 -
The second win of the season took an extra 15 minutes for the North Central College men's basketball team to obtain, but a series of clutch plays helped deliver a 119-118 triple-overtime triumph for the Cardinals at Aurora University Tuesday evening.

North Central (2-1) trailed, 89-86, in the final seconds of regulation before Kyle Julius nailed a three-pointer from the left wing as time ran out to force the first extra session. Julius came up big in the first overtime as well, as his free throw with two seconds remaining erased another Aurora lead.

Trailing, 106-102, the Cardinals moved in front with a 7-0 rally, as Reid Barringer sank a jumper, Derek Raridon hit from three-point range and Julius sank two free throws. North Central owned a three-point advantage with 25 seconds left, but Aurora's Dusty Magee drained a three-pointer to prolong the contest once again.

The Spartans (0-3) led through most of the third overtime session as well, leading, 115-112, before Barringer's three-pointer tied the score. Anthony Boykins answered with a jumper for Aurora, but Brian Evans countered with a bucket of his own on the next possession. AU's Shane Roland sank one of two free throws with 29 seconds left, but fouled Julius on the next trip down the floor. The senior knocked down both charity tosses, and the Spartans' Lance Robinson missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer.

North Central led throughout most of regulation, owning a 43-38 advantage at halftime and pulling ahead by as many as 12 early in the second half.

It was the Cardinals' first overtime game since a 78-72 loss to Elmhurst College on Jan. 30, 2008, and the team's first win in extra time since a 99-89 victory over Lindenwood University on Nov. 17, 2007.

Barringer finished with a game-high 33 points, making 8 of 16 three-point attempts. Raridon ended the night with 27 points, while Julius finsihed with 24 and David Twyman scored 21. Brandon Stanciel collected 10 rebounds and three blocked shots, Twyman finished with seven assists, and Julius totaled four steals. The Cardinals made 13 of 30 three-point shots (43.3 percent) and 30 of 40 free throws.

Magee led Aurora with 26 points and Roland scored 23.

The Cardinals return to action Saturday, hosting Illinois College (3-0) at 7:30 p.m.
